May 2020 - some exciting news :)

 In May, most things were still shut down. Stores were closed, when you went to Meijer there were directions to follow on the floor for what way you could go down each aisle in order to prevent people from being too close, social distancing signs were everywhere. The gym was still closed, but I was still just going early morning by myself. I got into the groove with Google Classroom and teaching virtual. It was a LOT of time spent in front of my computer. The girls also were still doing some schooling - with 1-2 zoom meetings a week with their teacher, but it was mostly for social interaction. 

One exciting thing that happened in May is that we decided to adopt a couple new family members. A foster/adoption place called "Piper's Palace" is local in Zeeland, and takes in a lot of stray mama cats. When new litters are born, they will post pictures of baby kittens, and try to find homes for all the new little fuzzy furballs! We originally talked about one kitten - there was a little guy posted that was born on March 15 - his name was Warlow. He had the cutest face and a beautiful grey coloring. He was one of three in his litter. Pam and Hoyt were his sister and brother. We got accepted to adopt Warlow (with Ryan's very hesitant blessing), and then saw that Pam and Hoyt's adoption plans fell through. After some deliberation and talking, we decided to adopt Pam as well. :) We got to meet them in mid May at a meet and greet at PetSmart. So so cute! 

That was the big news in May!  The rest of the month was mostly just a lot of at home projects (including painting the garage, which Ryan mostly took on!), more schooling at home, a few play dates (which didn't happen that often because of the social distancing requirements), and a lot more mask wearing! 

I also turned 39 - crazy to write that number out. There were a few surprise presents on my doorstep that morning (feeling all the birthday love!), and the girls and Ry made me feel very special that day! 

One other event in May was an appointment for Taylor at Devos Children's Hospital. There were a few comments (and concerns) from Taylor's teachers over the years about her attention, and also seeming to "space out". Her 4th grade teacher requested a spring parent-teacher conference (which we had never had one requested before) just so she could mention things that she was seeing with Taylor and her tendency to zone out. We brought it up at her well-child appointment, just to see what they might mention about it. Spacing out can sometimes be a mini seizure event. Just to check the box and make sure that this wasn't the cause, we went to Devos for a series of tests just to check. She had to be sleep deprived (she got to stay up late!), and then we had to get her up extra early. It was an interesting experience (DeVos is a beautiful hospital!), Taylor got to watch part of a movie, she had to keep her eyes closed for some flashing light tests (to see if it would trigger a seizure) - and bottom line they didn't notice any seizure activity! This was happy news, and glad to just know that it was not a problem for Tay. :)
