The day finally arrived!! The plane tickets were purchased (thank you, Mem!!!), the cottage was booked, the swimsuits were bought, the bags were packed...Mem, Taylor, Camryn and I were off to sunny Treasure Island, Florida!
Right after Christmas we finally made a decision about where we wanted to vacation for Spring Break. I had been wanting to take the girls on a trip, to have them start to experience more travel, and we finally got plans put into place! Our trip would take us to Treasure Island. :-) We didn't leave until Monday, April 3, but we were hoping for a little less busyness by waiting to leave until then, and then we flew back on Friday, April 7. We could have stayed longer, but we made the most of the days that we were there, and had a wonderful time!
Sunday, April 2 - the night before we left
Pre-checked into our flight, and printed our boarding passes! Excited!
Monday, April 3
Our flight didn't leave Grand Rapids until almost noon, so we were able to have a more relaxed morning. Ryan dropped us off at the airport around 10:00 - we would miss him during the week!
We got some coffee before going through security. :) The security check was probably the girl's favorite part of the airport - they thought it was really funny that lambie and taggie, and white blankie and Tony were going to get x-rayed just like our bags. :)
We could see all the big planes through the windows!
Finally on the plane, we sat 2 & 2. I think the girls were a little nervous about the flight, as it was their first time on an airplane, but they were mostly excited!! Everything was new, from putting on the seat belts, to the tray tables, to the idea of being able to stand up and walk around while we were moving!
On the take-off (or "blast off" as Camryn called it), the girls mostly laughed! We all chewed gum to help with the changing pressure on the ears. Before we knew it, we were in the air!
The whole flight went really easy. Taylor's ears were the only thing that were a little uncomfortable on the flight, but it passed, and the flight went by fairly quickly!
We flew to Charlotte, NC for our connecting flight to Tampa, Florida. It was a bit stormy in Charlotte, and we had to wait on a runway a little bit for some lightening to pass, but then we were in the air!
This flight we were sitting 3 & 1 - I was with the girls, and Mem was the seat next to us across the aisle. Again, it was a pretty easy flight!
Opening their Werther's hard candies to help with swallowing and ear pressure :)
When we arrived in Tampa, it was so WARM! 85 degrees outside! We got our luggage, and I changed the girls into shorts in the bathroom before we got the rental car.
Our rental car was a Hyundai Sante Fe, and was a good size for all of us and our luggage. :) It took us 45 minutes in 5:30pm rush hour traffic to make our way to our cottage. The girls were just ready to be there!! The views on our drive were so pretty though, water everywhere, and so many beautiful bridges!
Once we arrived at Treasure Island, our cottage was on a little side street, 86th Ave, only 3-4 minute from the beach and ocean! It was a cozy place with a living room, kitchen, one bedroom and one bathroom. The bathroom was tiny, but with just us girls, it worked out just fine. :)
After we dropped off our luggage and took a minute to sit, we headed over to the beach! We found that it was such an easy walk, and there were things to look at all along the way - fun mailboxes, lizards, different plants and flowers, and peaks of the ocean in between houses.
Arriving at the ocean for the first time!
The girls were slightly excited. :) It was REALLY windy, so we didn't stay long on the beach, and walked up to Caddy's on the Beach - a restaurant right there on the beach by where we were staying.
We had dinner at Caddy's - a veggie platter to start, and then some real food for dinner.
It was late - after 8:00 before we were heading home or the night. We were all tired, and ready for bed so our adventures could start the next day!
